Times and seasons

Ezekiel 1:2  On the fifth of the month in the fifth year of King Jehoiachin’s exile,

Wow! What a verse!! Yet there is something specific about God’s timing.

We need to learn and accept Gods timing. We also need to learn to recognise what that is, and bring our experience into line with Gods timing. Sometimes we race ahead, and sometimes we lag behind.

This time of exile that Ezekiel experienced was after Daniel had been in captivity for some time. It wasn’t a quick thing. Did God want the children of Israel to go into captivity? No. But He knew what they’d do, how they’d behave and how they’d respond to His calling, teaching and rebuke. The only way to save them ultimately was to allow a situation to arise that would cause them to cry out to God again.

God works in seasons. It’s good for us to learn to recognise which season we are in, and to be able to transition between the seasons as they change.

For example, you may be in a season of rest – there’s not much going on, things are all ok. Or it might be a season of trial – family issues, a problem at work and so on.

God changes the times and seasons. Daniel 2:21 says
He changes times and seasons; He removes kings and sets up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding;

He moves us through seasons to enable us to plant things, grow and bring forth fruit in our lives. But be aware that we may experience different seasons at the same time!

On the farm we may be combining wheat and drilling Oil Seed Rape on the same day. You may be sowing into a calling God has placed on you – developing a gift for example, like learning a musical instrument – whilst at the same time you might be helping a person through a challenging time of life.

Jesus was sowing truths and a lifestyle into the disciples whilst journeying to the Cross. He still taught key things at the last supper – lessons He continued with after the resurrection. An example of different seasons co-existing.

Take time to recognise the seasons that God is working in your life. Ask Him for revelation. Is there anything that you need to do?
