Matthew 27:40 and saying, “ You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”

As we move forward in our season of prayer, I sense the Lord bringing us back to the Cross. I am challenged to ask myself, ‘do I believe in the Cross?’ If I do then what bearing and impact does this have in my life?

The enemy seeks to destroy the impact of the cross on us. Even to Jesus satan sought to berate, humiliate and pressure Him to come down from the Cross. (Note the small ‘s’ and capital ‘C’ – #priorities). I’m not sure that we are any different – satan seeks to bring us down from our Cross to reduce its impact on us and consequently on those God is calling us to influence.

Here are some things to meditate on:

We are called to go through the Cross to access heaven, and then live from the Cross to bring Heaven to earth. (Matt 6:10). What then does Jesus mean when He says “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must denny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.” Matt 16:24 How will I do this today?

Simon followed after Jesus, carrying the Cross in the midst of the jeers, shouts and taunts of the people. (Lu 23:26) How can I do that today? Who are the jeers coming from and in what form are they?

Simon must have had support from the likes of John and the women who followed Jesus in support. Who in the crowd can support me? Perhaps I’m in the crowd of others – am I jeering at them in some way, or show me how I can support them Lord!

Please don’t let me be separated from the cross you call me to carry. Let me be like Simon, following in Your shadow carrying the Cross to bring life to even those who jeer at me. Jesus, you forgave on the Cross so help me to forgive after I’ve been through the Cross.
